Trained in classical music, it was really the classic rock of groups like the Beatles that first formed the musical passions of the Japanese singer/songwriter Heday. From Shizuoka, Japan, Heday (aka Hidehito Ikumo) took the path of many hopeful Japanese musicians and journeyed to the far away shores of the US to pursue his musical dreams.
Heday has recently joined forces with the beautiful songbird Valerie Stern to form the group Layla Lane. Come take a listen to the music of this promising duo and learn the story of their upcoming debut album, how Heday ended up in Los Angeles and how he finally got to jam with the great Ringo Starr.

heday, i’ve been a big fan of yours since i saw you perform at santa monica college. your flawless technique and musicianship left the audience stunned, and inspired many of us to study music at santa monica college. most memorable to me were your near perfect covers of beatles and ventures songs, as well as classical pieces placed in a rock style (i think it was mozart?). also, after meeting you at norm’s restaurant i found out you were very down to earth, and a nice person, not a huge ego driven jerk like so many other los angeles musicians.
i am glad to see your career is really taking off, but for many of us it is not surprising, it was only a matter of time before you made the big time!

I have enjoyed a lot this interview. Heday is so funny and talented musician. I remember the fist time I listened to his music, was ‘ The beginning’ thit song captured my attention immediately, sounds so good! and Valerie has such a sweet voice and she is great with piano too.
